Stoves & hobs FAQs

  • How do I clean the hob rings?
Remove the rings from the hob and soak them in a bowl of warm water mixed with dishwashing liquid. Use a cloth to wipe the hob rings. You may use an old toothbrush to scrub hard-to-reach places or to remove stubborn dirt and grease. Once the rings are clean, remove them from the bowl and rinse with cold, clean water. Leave them to dry thoroughly before placing them back on the hob.
  • What are the different types of hobs?
There are three popular types of hobs – gas, induction and ceramic. Electrolux gas hobs have a number of hob options, from two to three burners, including a burner specially designed for woks. Most Electrolux hobs can also be used with both cast iron pans or enamel pans.

Gas hobs: Gas hobs use actual fire for cooking, and usually come with burners of different sizes for various pots and pans. When cooking, you will be able to easily gauge the heat level as you are able to see the flames. However, as gas hobs use open fire, your kitchen will feel warmer. You also need to ensure that the minimum clearances around your gas hob are followed to avoid damaging your cabinets and finishes.

Induction hobs: Induction hobs generate electricity using magnetism to create heat inside a pan. There are no exposed flames and there will be no heat on the hob as heat is generated only when there is a pan on the induction zone. Induction hobs will heat your cookware directly, so your food cooks faster.

Ceramic hobs: Ceramic hobs are similar to induction hobs. The only difference is that the surface of the ceramic hob will be hot when it is switched on. With Ceramic hob, any types of cookware can be used.
  • How do I remove scratches from a ceramic hob?

Unfortunately, scratches on ceramic hobs cannot be removed. You can, however, buff away light streaks with baking soda, water and soft cloths. Make sure your ceramic hob is cool and then apply a loose paste made of baking soda and water on the scratch. Wipe it clean and buff dry with another soft cloth.

Scrathes or dark stains on the glass-ceremic cause no effect on how the appliance operates.

    To remove the dirst:

    1. Remove immediately: melted plastic, plastic foil, and food with sugar. If not, the dirt can cause damage to the appliance. Use a special scraper (option to buy) on the glass surface at an acute angle and move the blade on the surface.

  • Where can I repair a cooker hob?
Cooker hob repair is a job for qualified specialists. Contact our customer care support for more information.
  • How do I clean a cooker hob?
First remove all loose pieces of food. Clean stubborn stains by applying a small amount of cleaning fluid that’s specially designed for ceramic and glass hob cleaning. Allow the fluid to soak in but not completely dry out; just enough to let it soften any hard, dried food that’s stuck on the hob. Use a microfibre cloth to clean the rest of the hob. For an added shine, wipe with scrunched-up newspapers. The best way to maintain the cleanliness of your hob in the long run is to remove spillages quickly to avoid build-up of old food.
  • What is induction and how does it work?
With faster, more responsive heating, more energy-efficient cooking and easier cleaning, induction takes cooking to a whole new level. Using electromagnetic energy, heat is transferred directly to the cookware, so the cooktop remains cooler. And induction allows for more precise control when cooking – you can instantly adjust the heat to a delicate simmer or bring it to a quick boil.
  • What can I do to ensure the best results when cooking with my induction cooktop?

There are many factors that can affect cooking, but you can help ensure best results by following these recommendations:

    • Use heavier, high-quality cookware that is suitable for induction cooktops. High-quality cookware that is heavier and has a flat bottom will help your food cook more evenly.
    • Adjust the recipe's suggested temperature or cooking time.

Your induction cooktop provides exceptional temperature control that allows you to adjust heat with greater accuracy than gas or electric cooktops, especially at lower settings. Perfect for melting chocolate and cooking delicate foods and sauces.

  • How can I prevent scratches on my electric or induction cooktop?

Prior to using your cooktop for the first time, apply the recommended cooktop cleanser to the surface and buff using a nonabrasive cloth or pad. The special cooktop cleansing cream leaves a protective finish that helps prevent scratches and abrasions.

To further prevent scratches on your cooktop surface.

    • Be sure that the cooktop and any pots, pans, or utensils you use are clean.
    • If coarse particles (such as salt) come between your cooktop and utensils, scratches can result.
    • Use pots and pans that have a smooth, flat bottom.
    • Use cleaning materials that are recommended for ceramic/glass cooktops.
    • Any small scratches that occur will not affect your cooktop’s performance, and will become less visible over time.
  • What cookware is compatible with Induction cooktops?
Not all pieces of cookware can be used on induction cooktops and stoves. Since induction technology uses the power of magnetism, the cookware piece itself must be magnetic and have a flat bottom. For this reason, cookware made from aluminium, copper or glass, including Pyrex will not work on its own. To test if your cookware is magnetic simply place a magnet on the bottom of the pan.
  • I see discoloured areas on my electric or induction cooktop that have a metallic sheen. How can I prevent or remove these?
Discoloration that has a metallic sheen can be caused by mineral deposits from water and food. You can help prevent it by using cookware with a clean and dry bottom surface, and you can remove it with a ceramic/glass cooktop cleaning cream.
  • My induction cooktop has switched off?

Electrolux cooktops have built-in automatic safety switch off. The appliance deactivates automatically if:

    • You spill liquids or place something across the control panel for more than 10 seconds
    • The appliance becomes too hot (e.g. when a saucepan boils dry, or oil reaches above 300C).
    • You use incorrect cookware that is not induction friendly.
  • What is Maxisense Technology?

The Induction cooktop that adjusts to the shape of the pan. This is a zone flexible feature. With pan detection technology and large induction zones, the Maxisense cooktop allows you to place large pots across two zones, or multiple pots on a single zone providing the crosshairs are covered. This gives you the freedom to use different sized pots and pans across multiple zones. A great feature for very large pans.

Note: Maxisense Technology only applies to Pure Hob range of induction hob.
